Marietta, GA

Long before Atlanta was founded, there was Marietta, Georgia. The earliest reported settlement of the town was a small community of homes in 1824. In the early 1930s, the Georgia settlers seized the land that was once home to the Cherokee tribes and formed 10 different counties. Cobb county was among these 10 new counties. Cobb County was named after the acclaimed U.S. Politician, Thomas Wills Cobb, who served as a U.S. Representative, a U.S. Senator, and a Supreme Court Judge. In December 1834, Marietta was recognized as a town by the Georgia legislature, and many claimed the town was named after Thomas Wills Cobb’s wife, Marietta.

Moving forward to 1848, John Glover arrived in Marietta and propelled his business and political careers. Glover was widely known and loved throughout Marietta and when the town incorporated in 1852, he became the first mayor. In the mid to late 1850s, fire struck the town and nearly burned down all of the buildings, but when the Civil War began in 1861, the city had recovered and was booming.

Today, Marietta is still a booming city and is home to more than 300,000 residents. With abundant natural resources and deep-rooted history, Marietta is the heart of Georgia. Being located just 20 miles outside of Atlanta, the city is the perfect place for suburban life, with easy access to the big city.
